Yeah so that whole "I'm gonna blog!" thought lasted for all but 1 post. The last 20 months have been kinda crazy with stuff going on; getting a new job, moving twice, buying an apartment, buying a car, all the while trying to work on my own stuff. I didn't even think about posting about the stuff I've been up to, But I'm here now and I wanted to make an effort to actually make a blog post for once and just blurt out everything going on.
I'm not actually dead!
yes, since the last post, me and my partner have moved twice; first to Drammen and then to Kongsberg. I can't recommend moving that often, as you tend to avoid unpacking when you find a place to settle down. Luckily though I'm pretty sure we are staying in our newest place for the foreseeable future. And I'm pretty happy with the place too, now I can walk to work in about 15-20 minutes which easily beats an hour of commuting on a train (that's how it was in our last place)
Going from two broke students, barely affording food to having a well-paid job and affording your own place feels very surreal. Stuff in general has just happened pretty fast lately, which is both awesome and a little scary. But I think it's fair to say I've landed on my feet. And even though I might consider taking another jump and continue working towards the dream of full-time game development, I think things are going a-ok.
Of course we still attended GGJ this year, it's a highlight of the year and I look forward to going again early 2026. This year's theme was Bubble, so of course a lot of our first ideas were soap and water themed. But somehow, we ended up making "Michael Bubblé's social bubblé", a 90s themed website for a bunch of people called Michael. It was pretty fun to make a game that wasn't really a game, but more like an experience. Though there are a couple minigames hidden around. Got to work with some friends from studies too, so very fun to make stuff with them this year.
I've uploaded the game to itch.io, and even made a browser version which works decently well, but might break if you don't have a 1920x1080 display. give it a go here: Michael Bubblé's social bubblé
Warning: your eyes may bleed when you go to the page.
The game also features a character designed by an elementary school kid, which was one of the diversifyers this year. The character's name is Stjerne-Truls, who we've placed in place of a ball in a pachinko game and it's probably the hardest minigame in the experience.
Still working on my own stuff of course, a little gravity simulation, a little 3D modelling and a little arcade style flying game. I might work more with some of em, and that'll mean more posts or even a full page dedicated to a project. So for now here's just a little taste;
Got the idea to make some sort of skateboarding 3D platformer in the same vein as the PS2 games I grew up with (like Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank and the Tony Hawk series).
So worked on making a character who would be fun to play as, Wade the dart frog and his talking skateboard Ollie. For now I've just used it as practice with low poly 3D modelling, but I'd like to make a prototype sometime soon.
Made in about 3 days, this is a simple prototype where you fly through a level and pick up powerups. For future work, I want to add obstacles or even enemies that try to shoot you down. For now though it's been an exercise in camera work, responsiveness and game feel,
To put it this way; It's fun to play even without a goal or obstacles. That's a pretty good start!
A small gravity simulator made using PyGame to practice more with Python. It evokes some memories from my time at studies and making a game engine, but when I'm not being graded for it, it's easier to just work on for fun.
Not too sure how much further I'd want to take this project, I feel it does just about what I want it to for now. I think I'd rather start a new one and just use what I learned from this.
So yeah, that's a quick summary of what I've been up to. Of course there's a lot more I could talk about, but I prefer to keep this site semi-professional (emphasis on semi of course). But hopefully I won't wait too long before I post again, but if I do it'll be another dump like this probably.
Thanks for reading, Hope y'all are doing fine!
